ODUNA COVID-19 Offa Relief
The Offa Descendants Union of North America (ODUNA) recently concluded a financial assistance relief program for the people of Offa in Kwara State. The initiative for the program followed an emergency lockdown of the town to control potential spread of COVID19 following visit to the town and burial of a prominent person whose wife had tested positive. ODUNA was well aware of the economic disruption the shut down of the town would cause. Like many well meaning citizens and organizations, ODUNA started a fundraising among its members to provide relief.
ODUNA raised $10,000 from members which was exchanged for naira. About 1600 beneficiaries received 2,500 naira each. The beneficiaries included members from different categories that includes;
1. Pensioners.
2. Artisans.
3. The Disabled.
4. Christians Association of Nigeria
5. Petty Traders.
6. Widows & Widower.
7. Islamic Associations
8. OKADA Riders
9. Korope Drivers.
10. Victims of Armed Robbery in Offa.
11. Offa Hospital Patients Welfare
12. The Aged and Old.
The program was very successful and reached the intended recipients. The testimonies from recipients was very touching. All the recipients and the leadership of the town expressed profound gratitude to ODUNA members.
